Urbanna tax rate holds steady; water rates to jump as much as 10%

Megan Hall, president of Urbanna Main Street, was the only speaker on May 22 during the Urbanna Town Council’s public hearing on Urbanna’s proposed fiscal year (FY) 2025-2026 budget.

Hall asked the council to help fund the organization that is working to uplift Urbanna as a whole.

“Economic development  does not happen in isolation. It takes vision, coordination and community wide support and we are ready and willing to  do the work,” she told councilors.

Hall said Urbanna Main Street needs to hire an executive director who can also write grants.

“Urbanna Main Street is not just an investment in us, but it’s an investment in everything around us,” Hall added.

Mayor Bill Goldsmith referred the request to the finance committee, which will meet on   Monday, June 2, at 10 a.m. at the Urbanna Town Hall, located at 390 Virginia St., Suite B.

The town council will adopt its budget in June.
