
Nielson McMinn continues to stretch the Middlesex High School (MHS) school record in the discus throw. For two weeks in a row, he broke the MHS school record. Last week he threw the discus 156 feet, 5.5 inches on Thursday at King William High School.
The Chargers have seen three school track records broken in the past three weeks as along with McMinn, Cameron Lambert broke a 31-year-old 3,200 meter record and Lambert, Gunnar Marston, Thomas Dobb and Darius Jones broke the MHS school record in the 4 by 800 meter relay last week at the second annual Denbigh Patriot Classic at Newport News.
Boys track
At the King William tri-meet that included Northumberland and Middlesex double Charger winners were McMinn in discus (156.05.05) and shot put (42’ 01.05”); JaQuan Griffin, triple jump (44’ 3”) and long jump (22’ 02”); Davonte Griffin, 300 meter intermediate hurdles (45.12) and high jump (6’); and Lambert, 1,600 meters (4:40.16) and 800 meters (2:08.52).
Other first place winners were Malaci Ball, 400 meters (52.43); and the 4 by 800 meter relay team composed of Lambert, Marston, Jones and Dobb (9:44.81).
Girls track
Karadee Anderson and Iyana Jenkins were double winners for the Lady Chargers. Jenkins won the 100 meter high hurdles (17.24) and 300 meter hurdles (47.78) and Anderson won the shot put (33’ 9.5”) and discus (96.6.5). Other winners were Hannah Harris in the 800 meters (3:07.23); and Bailey Bagby, high jump (4’ 8”).
The Chargers and Lady Chargers traveled to Essex High School on Wednesday, May 7, to take on the Trojans and Lady Trojans. Results were unavailable at press time.
