Urbanna UMC to discuss the meaning of Methodism

The United Methodist Church is changing and 2020 is likely to be a consequential year for the future of the denomination and its congregations. Many are aware of the differences over matters of human sexuality. But what if there are underlying issues of much greater consequence that lie at the root of the disagreements, questions like: What makes Methodists distinct among Christians? What was our original aim and purpose? Are we still headed in the same direction? And what if the answers given to such questions about the church’s basic identity and mission will shape the direction and health of Methodist churches going forward?

Beginning Sunday, January 12, Urbanna UMC at 221 Marston Ave. in Urbanna will begin hosting a seven-week class around the theme “What does it mean to be a Methodist?” Pastor Bruce Johnson will lead a discussion of the book, “Mainline or Methodist? Recovering Our Evangelistic Mission” by Scott Kisker.

The discussion is open to any interested person. If you would like to sign up for the class, contact the church office at 804-758-5308. For more information, contact Pastor Bruce at 434-610-1115.
