On three Saturdays this fall Christ Church Parish (Episcopal) will offer another fun and educational hands-on event for youths interested in learning the basics of robot assembly and control.

During the first Saturday, Oct. 18, from 9 a.m. to noon, while building robot cars, participants will learn how robots work and also gain an appreciation for the increasingly important roles robots play in our everyday lives.

On Oct. 25 and Nov. 1 from 9 a.m. to noon, this experience will be enhanced by fundamental coding instruction and programming of the little robot cars. Students who complete at least one of the coding/programming sessions can keep the robots they build. This opportunity to add more experience in coding and controlling a robot was made possible through a collaboration with the Middlesex County Public Library system and generous donations from Middlesex County Rotary and Kiwanis clubs and Moose Lodge 2401 for the purchase of suitable laptops.

This event is free and best suited for youth ages 12 to 15 with no prior robotics or programming experience. Enrollment is limited. Those who have never participated in the church’s previous Robotics Plus Coding events will have priority.

Advance registration by Oct. 10 is necessary so that organizers can have robots and laptops ready and plan for refreshments. If you wish to receive a pre-registration form, email Ann de Peyster, adepeyst@sdsu.edu or call or text 858-699-3599. For any strictly technical questions contact Mike Kirk, wiltonkirk@gmail.com.

Organizers ask that you share this unique opportunity with any friends or family members with children who might be interested.
