
The Middlesex High School (MHS) varsity baseball team (9-8, 6-3) traveled to Mathews High School on Thursday, May 15, and dropped a 3-2 contest to the Blue Devils.
The Chargers had the Blue Devils down, 2-1, going into the sixth and final inning when Mathews’ bats came alive, registering three hits, and scoring two runs to come away with the 3-2 Tidewater District win.
Charger pitcher Bryson Bulgin held the Blue Devils to just one run in five innings. Henry Fleet gave up two runs in one inning of work on the mound. Mathews had just four hits in the game.
Middlesex scored a run in the fourth and fifth innings. The Chargers had six hits in the game as Shane Glenn, Fleet, Bulgin, Nolan Rutkowski, Payton Calhoun and Thomas Foster all contributed a hit apiece. Fleet and Rutkowski each scored a run and Bulgin and Foster had an RBI each.
The Chargers traveled to Charles City on Monday, May 19, to take on the Panthers in a Tidewater District matchup, the last regular season game of the year.
