Middlesex High School (MHS) girls track athletes captured runner-up honors as a team, finishing in second place in the Tidewater District track and field championship meet on Wednesday, May 21, at Charles City High School.
The Charger girls were paced by double winner Karadee Anderson, who won the shot put (34’ 2.5”) and discus (98’ 9”).
Iyana Jenkins won the 300 intermediate hurdles (49.11), finished second in the 100 high hurdles (16.48) with one of the fastest times in MHS history for that event, and second in pole vault (6’ 6”).
According to the Southside Sentinel track reports there have been only two faster times registered in the girls 100 meter hurdles as Regina Pratt ran 16.40 in the Region A track meet in 1994 and Amanda Holmes ran a 16.46 in the Region A meet in 2001. The winning time at the 2025 Tidewater District meet was 15.98 by sophomore Derequa Johnson of Charles City.
There were two other Middlesex first place finishers as sophomore Bailey Bagby won the high jump (4’ 10”) and Elena Fomin won the pole vault (7’). Fomin also finished fifth, 400 meters (1:15.66).
The Region A championship track and field meet is set for 1:30 p.m., Thursday, May 29, at Charles City High School.
