Daisy Smith, 81, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 23, 2025. Born Oct. 2, 1943 in Virginia, she lived a life rooted in love of family and enjoyed all the simple joys life had to offer.
Daisy was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Lacy Henry Smith Sr.; grandson, Lucas Smith; brothers, Ernest “Tubby” Edwards and George Edwards; and sister-in-law, Leona Edwards. Daisy and Lacy shared a life of devotion and partnership and together they built a strong, loving family that was the center of Daisy’s world.
She is survived by her five children, Lacy Henry Jr. (Christina), Ernest Charles (Julie), David Troy, Elizabeth Virginia “Betsy” (John) and Michael Brian (Laura). Known affectionately as Nanny, Daisy was a cherished grandmother to 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Patricia Milby; sister-n-law, Edna Edwards; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Her presence was a constant source of warmth and comfort across generations.
Daisy had a love for the simple pleasures of life. She was an excellent cook whose meals brought people together and created memories around the table. Her hands were rarely still – she found joy in sewing, crafting and quilting pieces that will carry beauty and sentiment for years to come. She was a lover of nature and spent hours planting flowers and admiring birds, often capturing these moments through her passion for photography.
Her dedication to her family was unwavering. She will be remembered as a great wife, mother, nanny, sister and friend.
May her memory bring comfort to all those who knew her and continue to inspire love and togetherness for years to come.
