The Middlesex High School (MHS) varsity softball team got its first win this season with a 20-1 victory over King and Queen Central. The Lady Chargers lost a “heartbreaker” to West Point 12-7, said MHS Coach Jennifer Morotini. “Despite a losing record, the girls are coming around at the plate and have played consistently solid defense.”

Libby Oliver is leading the team with a batting average of more than .300, and she has had “stellar defense” at both second base and on the mound, said Coach Morotini.

Middlesex was scheduled to host Charles City on May 3 in a double header. Results were unavailable at press time. The Charger girls will also host King William at 5 p.m. today, Thursday, May 5.
