Middlesex High School track athletes impress

The 2023-2024 Middlesex High School boys and girls track teams are loaded with talent with seven boys and five girls returning from last year who qualified and ran in the state track meet.

For the boys, Rowan Anderson is returning in the triple jump and will run a leg of the 4 x 100 meter relay; JaQuan Griffin, triple jump, long jump and 4 x 100 meter relay; and Cameron Lambert is back to compete in the 300 hurdles and 4 x 100 meter relay.

Gunnar Marston is back this year running the distances and he qualified last year in the 1,600 meters and ran a leg of 4 x 800 meter relay. Thomas Dobb qualified for state last year in the 3,200 meters and ran a leg of the 4 x 800 meter relay and Chris Butler qualified in the 3,200 last year.

For the girls, Geriyah Cooke is one of the best shot putters and discus throwers in the state and not far behind Cooke is Karadee Anderson who is returning in the shot put and discus. Chelsey Holmes is back in the long jump; E’Mony Jones in the 200 and 400 meters; and Sophia Koontz is returning in the 1,600 and 3,200 meters.

“We have a pretty good start to the 2024 season,” said MHS boys coach Joel Anderson. “We have a lot of young athletes with some state qualifiers coming back from last year, which should make for a very strong season.”
