MHS softball team afire as it starts season

New to the team Magen Daniels strikes out 27 foes in first two games

The 2023-2024 Middlesex High School (MHS) varsity softball team (4-0) has seven returning players from last year’s Lady Chargers squad.

Among the returning players are four Lady Chargers who made All-Region A teams, and the All-Tidewater District team in 2023. Junior Libby Oliver was the at-large selection for the All-Region A first team. Oliver had a .519 batting average, with 27 hits, 28 RBIs, 27 runs scored to lead the Lady Chargers in each category. She also had four pitching wins.

Making second team was All-Region A senior outfielder Candice Brown, who had a .467 batting average, 21 hits, 17 RBIs, 24 runs scored, and led Middlesex in slugging with .889 percent.

Also on second team was sophomore pitcher Courtney Jessie, who recorded eight pitching wins topping the Lady Chargers. She also had a .435 batting average, 20 hits, 19 RBIs, and 19 runs scored.

Junior Kayleigh Moye made the second team with a .381 batting average, 16 hits, 11 RBIs, and 13 runs scored.

Also returning to the Lady Chargers are senior Chelsey Holmes at first base, and sophomores Carly Jessie at shortstop and third base and outfielder Cheyenne Musick who also plays second base.
