Va. Master Naturalist Washington to speak at DMM

Ready for anything: Betsy Washington, in full “bush” regalia, explores a Virginia forest for native plants. Hear from Washington this Sunday about advantages and disadvantages of native planting at the Turner Lecture Series Sunday, March 17, at 2 p.m. at the Deltaville Maritime Museum’s events pavilion. (Contributed)

As the Deltaville Maritime Museum (DMM) and Holly Point Nature Park presents our final lecture of the annual Turner series this Sunday, March 17, promptly at 2 p.m., Master Naturalist Betsy  Washington presents, “Native Plants — Beauty, Birds and the Butterflies.” Begun in 2019 as pre-season events in January, February and March these three lectures, offered in DMM’s heated events pavilion, have become a  mainstay of our events off-season.

We encourage all our “Friends of the Museum” to come by now that DMM has reopened  daily and check out the new additions to our exhibits and the artwork along our upper walls. DMM is open noon-4 p.m. on Sunday.

As we approach spring, Betsy will present an introduction to the beauty, value, and many ecological benefits of using native plants in the landscape.

Now retired, Betsy is currently a certified Virginia Master Naturalist (VMN), and President of the Northern Neck Chapter of the Virginia Native Plant Society. There will be refreshments and a “Q and A” after the lecture.
