School board OKs $352,550 parking lot at elementary school

The Middlesex County School Board (MCSB) voted unanimously Monday at a school board meeting at St. Clare Walker Middle School to accept a $352,550 bid from Parsley’s Siteworks LLC of Saluda to build a paved parking lot on the field adjacent to Middlesex Elementary School (MES).

The grass parking area now provides parking for MES and the upper ballfields at the Middlesex County Sports Complex.

Senior engineer of Bay Design Group, Ben Burton, said at the meeting that the MES parking lot will be paved and lined for 108 parking spaces. He noted that the bid was slightly lower than what Bay Design had estimated the cost would be.

Burton recommended that the school board accept the bid because it was the lowest and a fair bid of the three bids received; the firm is located in Middlesex so the money is going back into the community; and Bay Design has experienced good results working with the firm on several previous jobs…
