Edward Kenneth Truffer

Edward Kenneth Truffer, 90, of Hartfield, formerly of Baltimore, Md., died surrounded by his children on Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2024.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 45 years, Eleanor Anne Wurzbacher Truffer; and his father and mother, Joseph August and Winifred Cole Truffer.

He is survived by four devoted children, Mary Jane Standley (Billy Standley) of Henrico, Nancy Ellen Wright (J.C. Wright) of Annapolis, Md., Edward Kenneth Truffer Jr. of Chesterfield, and Susan Elizabeth Boehling (Paul Boehling) of Raleigh, N.C.; and his two dear sisters, Mary Elizabeth “Betty” Guercio of Glen Burnie, Md., and Patricia A. “Pat” Ozborn of Baltimore, Md. He was also a beloved grandfather to 24 grandchildren and 22 great -grandchildren.

Ken was a graduate of Mt. St. Joseph’s College High School (1951) and University of Maryland, College Park (1957). He worked for Western Electric/AT and T/Lucent Technologies, where he worked as an industrial engineer. He relocated to Richmond in 1983 and eventually retired in Hartfield.

He was an active volunteer throughout his life including serving in his parish communities of St. Philip Neri in Linthicum, Md., St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Richmond, and St. Francis de Sales in Kilmarnock. Ken was active in the parish Men’s Club, Maryland Right to Life, and political action committees to promote Catholic education. He directed and coached a multitude of parish youth sports programs and Catholic Youth Organization programs for more than 20 years. He was active in the Knights of Columbus, the Legion of Mary, and was a supporter of Comunita Cenacolo. He advocated for the unborn and the youth; he faithfully visited the sick, the imprisoned, and those in nursing homes; and he fervently prayed and promoted the rosary.

Ken served as community association president, was a member of the Stepping Stones Square Dancing Club, the Chesapeake Bay Croquet Club, and was an avid fisherman, boater, and sports fan.

Visitation was at 4-5 p.m., a rosary and a Christian wake was at 5 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 25, both at Currie Funeral Home, 116 E. Church St., Kilmarnock. A reception followed at The Kilmarnock Inn, 34 E. Church St., Kilmarnock.

A funeral Mass was at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 26, at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 154 E. Church St., Kilmarnock, with the Rev. Michael T. Orlowsky officiating. Burial followed at Church of the Visitation Cemetery, 8462 General Puller Highway, Topping. A reception followed at the clubhouse at The Coves at Wilton Creek, Hartfield.
