Virginia Master Naturalist Washington to give DMM Turner Lecture Series talk

John Melvin Ward Jr. sets new Turner lecture record last month: One-hundred-and-ninety signed-in attendees await the opening of the Jan. 21 inaugural 2024 Turner Lecture Series at the events pavilion at the Deltaville Maritime Museum. Attendees report John Melvin kept everyone involved and on the edge of his or her seat for this very informative lecture about the Deltaville workboat history. (Contributed)

The Deltaville Maritime Museum (DMM) and Holly Point Nature Park complex is celebrating the re-opening of the museum building, which received a thorough January cleaning and refurbishing. We are also continuing our four-year-old Turner Lecture Series, and plan to present our final lecture on Sunday, March 17, promptly at 2 p.m.

The final lecture in the season will be “Native Plants — Beauty, Birds and the Butterflies,” by Betsy Washington. Now retired, Betsy is currently a certified Virginia Master Naturalist (VMN), and president of the Northern Neck Chapter of the Virginia Native Plant Society. There will be refreshments and a “Q and A” after the lecture.

Call the DMM office at 804-776-7200 to RSVP.
