The Middlesex County Board of Supervisors approved a special exception permit on Tuesday, Dec. 5, that will allow the Middlesex Moose Lodge to build a lodge building on an 11-acre site near Hartfield.

The 11-acre site is zoned Low Density Rural and is located near Scott’s Auto Repair-Performance on General Puller Highway (Route 33) near Hartfield. Shannon Sears, administrator for the Moose Lodge, said that the current lodge building located at the rear of the Hartfield Village Shopping Center is “inadequate” for the 450-member group and there are not enough parking spaces.

The lodge is a nonprofit organization that Sears said donates more than $200,000 back to the region with $100,000 going directly to Middlesex County charities. She said their most recent donation was a $1,000 donation to Compass Academy, part of Middlesex County Public Schools.
