The Deltaville Maritime Museum and Colonial Seaport Foundation will be sharing the history and operating procedure of the replica of John Smith’s mapping vessel, “Explorer,” with various area students on the pre-Urbanna Oyster Festival, UOFucation Day, which is Thursday, Nov. 2.

The vessel was built in 2007-2008 by DMM as a copy of the shallop used during Smith’s 1608 exploration of the Chesapeake Bay and attended the Sesquicentennial Jamestown Celebration in 2008. The “Explorer” will be located right on the waterfront at the Urbanna Town Marina near the tall ship “Lynx.”
