Compactor goes on the fritz at Hartfield Convenience Ctr.

Due to “a major electrical problem,” one compactor is not working at the Hartfield Convenience Center (804-776-7322) and the facility will be closed today, Thursday, Aug. 31, for repairs.

“Virginia Peninsulas Public Service Authority (VPPSA) will be sending out a repair service team Thursday and assuming they are able to obtain all parts to get it fixed, to get both compactors working again,” said an email from Tammy-Lynn Gilbert, executive assistant in the Middlesex County Administration Office in Saluda.

The site, which serves as drop-off point for residents’ recyclables and garbage, is at 11015 General Puller Highway (Route 33) in Hartfield, will remain closed during repairs and “thank you for your continued support as we take time for employee meetings, training, and site maintenance to provide the best services we can for you,” a VPPSA sign announced at the site.

As an alternative, the Deltaville Convenice Center (804-776-7088) on Recycle Drive (Route 660) in Deltaville is scheduled to be open 9 a.m.-5 p.m. today, Thursday, Aug. 31.
