Firm seeks to store sewage next to school

Officials: Info needed prior to OKing 100,000 gals. of sewage near SCW

Representatives from Hampton Roads Sanitation District (HRSD) requested that the school board sell approximately a half-acre of land from the St. Clare Walker Middle School (SCW) campus area near General Puller Highway (Route 33) at Locust Hill for installation of a sewage pump and storage facility.

Board Chairman Claudia Soucek said the school board needed more information on the sewage facility before making a decision.

HRSD officials reported that the firm is currently in the process of purchasing property on Route 33 that once housed an upholstery shop owned and operated by the late Creswell Blake. HRSD needs another half-acre of land to go with the Blake property to install a 100,000 gallon storage unit and to house equipment to pump the sewage from the facility.

HRSD is planning to build 30 miles of “interceptor main” that will pump wastewater to an existing line in Mathews County and eventually to Yorktown…
