Supervisors salute outgoing assistant co. administrator

Longtime Middlesex County Assistant County Administrator Betty Muncy is retiring at the end of this month. The Middlesex County Board of Supervisors agreed earlier this month to name the road leading to the Middlesex Water Authority’s (MWA) artesian wells near Urbanna the “Betty Muncy Lane ‘’ honoring her for her work with the MWA that has made available central water to nearly half the citizens in the county. The Middlesex County Board of Supervisors (MCBS) honored longtime assistant county administrator Betty Muncy on Tuesday, Nov. 1, for her 36 years of “loyal and dedicated service to the citizens of Middlesex County.” Muncy is retiring at the end of this month.

The board unanimously passed a resolution that stated she began employment with Middlesex County on July 14, 1986 and “faithfully served in multiple positions with the county.”

“Now, therefore, be it further resolved that the MCBS expresses its sincere thanks, appreciation and gratitude to Betty S. Muncy for her dedication and years of exemplary public service to the citizens of Middlesex County,” the resolution stated.

After former chairman of the board Wayne Jessie read the resolution, Muncy received a standing ovation from citizens, her family and county staff who were in attendance at the meeting.

Muncy struggled to hold back tears. “I cry at sad and happy things,” she said. “I thank you all for your kindness over the years and giving me an amazing place to work and live.”
