Richard G. Shore

Richard G. Shore, 80, of Hartfield passed away on Sunday, Sept. 25, 2022.

Richard was born in Queens, N.Y. to the late Harry and Catherine Shore. He graduated from Seaford High School, Seaford, N.Y.

He is survived by his wife of almost 58 years, Barbara Shore; son, Richard M. Shore of Kilmarnock; daughter, Lisa Shore (Steve Difazio) of California; grandchildren, Ashley Lewis Horne (Brandon) of Florida, Christopher Lewis (Julia) of California, and Roger Runyon of Virginia; great-grandchildren, Mackenzie, Kirra, Kambrie, Roger, Gabriel and Autumn; step-great-grandchildren, Caleb, Dylan and Aria; sister, Julia Ranieri of Florida; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Richard was a retired sergeant first class (SFC) in the U.S. Army. He earned the Purple Heart and Bronze Star in Vietnam. He retired from Fort Eustis in 1981 after 20 years service.

He worked at Virginia Power Surry Nuclear Power Plant as a mechanic for 22 years and was also an EMT for nine of these years. After retiring, he joined Middlesex County Volunteer Rescue Squad as an EMT in 2005, holding several positions on the board. He is a life member of the rescue squad.

A memorial service is planned for 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 8 at the Middlesex County Volunteer Rescue Squad, 17684 General Puller Hwy, Deltaville. A celebration of life will continue after at the rescue squad.
