MHS Chargers keep it competitive despite injuries

by Larry Chowning –

The Middlesex High School (MHS) Chargers fell to the Lancaster Red Devils on Friday, Sept. 16, 30-15, in away football action.

The Chargers were missing three key players, due to injuries, but still had a competitive outing. On the first possession, Middlesex used up most of the time in the first quarter to eventually score the first touchdown of the night.

Middlesex came out in the second half and controlled play throughout the third quarter.

Lancaster moved the ball down to the two-yard line in the fourth quarter and was on the verge of scoring when the Red Devils fumbled the ball and MHS recovered. On the next play, the Chargers were stopped in the end zone for a Red Devils 2-point safety, making the score 24-15 with 3:37 left in the game.

The safety gave the ball back to Lancaster and the Red Devils rolled down the field and scored yet another touchdown. The 2-point conversion was unsuccessful, ending scoring in the game 30-15.

The Chargers will try to stop the Rappahannock High School Raiders (1-3, 0-1) Friday, Sept. 23, in football action in Warsaw. Kickoff is 7 p.m.
