Intra-county battle looms with Seahorses

The Middlesex High School (MHS) varsity football team opened its 2022 regular gridiron season Friday night at Syd Thrift Athletic Complex in Saluda with a 7-6 victory over the Charles City Panthers.

The Chargers scored their only touchdown of the night with 10:46 left on the clock when MHS quarterback Cameron Lambert tossed a 43-yard touchdown strike to Jayden Kidd.
Kidd got out in front of Charles City defenders and Lambert threw a pass that hit Kidd in full stride. Kidd went into the end zone untouched.

Kidd paced the offense with 60 yards on the ground, 43 yards in the air and a touchdown.

JaQuan Griffin had three receptions for 51 yards and Lambert completed four passes out of six for 101 yards, with two interceptions.

Cameron Bunns led the defense with 13 tackles followed by Cameron Byers with eight and Kidd and Malik Dandy both having six tackles apiece. Dandy collected two sacks in the fourth quarter.

The Chargers will take on the in-county rival Christchurch Seahorses on Friday, Sept. 2, at 7 p.m. at Bristow-Boxley Field in Saluda.
