Rising Middlesex High School (MHS) freshmen students participated in a Freshman Academy last month to become more oriented to high school life that will start for them on Monday, Aug. 22.

Incoming freshmen were divided into three groups and they could choose which week to attend. The group of students in the photo above was the second group of freshmen and they attended the academy from July 11-14, said MHS Assistant Principal Drew Layne.

The students spent the first two days touring the building, doing motivational and team building activities, working with the assistant principal, a teacher, as well as older students who were our student ambassadors, said Layne.

“The third day we traveled to York River State Park and did some canoeing, got muddy on a marsh exploration tour, picnic, and a short hike down to the beach,” he said.

The final day students went to Compass Entertainment Complex in Irvington and did the activities there including rock climbing, ninja course, indoor ropes course, putt putt golf and go-karts, said Layne.
