School Board seeks 7% hike in pay for staff

The Middlesex County School Board (MCSB) on Monday, March 14, approved a proposed fiscal year 2023 (FY 23) school budget that calls for $12,316,267 in local spending.

This is a $784,715 increase in local funding over the current fiscal year budget (FY22).

The proposed budget includes a 5.7% raise, plus a “step increase” for teachers, which amounts to a total percentage increase of 7% overall. The proposal also calls for a 7% increase for all other school employees.

The proposed FY23 budget calls for an overall 6.8% increase in local fund revenues over the FY22 budget and amounts to $11,169,803 in operation cost and $1,146,464 in debt service.

Estimated state revenue funds are $6,617,140, which is $419,007 or a 6.87% increase over the FY22 budget. Federal revenues are expected to increase to $855,351, which is a $53,697 increase…
