“Eat Like a Local” program expanding into Middlesex County

The Town of Kilmarnock is spearheading a local initiative encouraging the community to support local restaurants, especially Jan. 21 through 31.

What started as “Kilmarnock Restaurant Week — Eat Like a Local” is now expanding throughout the lower Northern Neck and into the Middle Peninsula and Middlesex County.

“Restaurant Week is designed to celebrate and support our local restaurants,” said the town’s economic development coordinator, Sharon Phillips. “American, Italian, Thai, soul food, Mexican, pizza, burgers no matter what you’re craving, Kilmarnock restaurants are serving your favorites! This is an opportunity to support your favorite restaurant during their lean time.”

In addition to dining in and take out meals, patrons are reminded now is a good time to purchase gift certificates/cards as well, Phillips said.

The town will promote Restaurant Week through social media and has enlisted the support of the Lancaster by the Bay Chamber of Commerce and Virginia’s River Realm to expand the promotion among restaurants throughout the area, she said.

This would include Topping, Urbanna, Saluda, Deltaville, White Stone, Lively and Irvington.
Phillips also has reached out to Bay 101.7 FM and the Southside Sentinel.
