The Middlesex County Board of Supervisors learned on Oct. 5 that Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will not complete the bridge on Route 625 over Barrick’s Millpond near Wake until “hopefully” December.

New Saluda District VDOT Resident Administrator Lee McKnight reported to the board on Oct. 5 that due to a nationwide steel shortage the contractor building the bridge has been unable to obtain enough steel to complete the job.

Work started on the bridge on June 14 and was scheduled to be completed September 2021, said McKnight. The road across the bridge has been closed intermittently with a detour since June.
