A proposal to build an electricity storage facility is among the public hearing topics the Middlesex Planning Commission is expected to consider when it meets 7 p.m. Thursday, June 10, in the Historic Middlesex County Courthouse.
Open Road Renewables of Austin, Texas has proposed building the “Drake Power Facility Project” near the intersection of Grey’s Point Road (Route 3) and General Puller Highway (Route 33) in the Harmony Village-Topping area.
If approved, large batteries will store excess electricity from the Dominion Energy substation located directly across Route 3 from the proposed storage site. The large batteries would go into an area fronting Grey’s Point Road, northwest of its intersection with General Puller Highway. When electricity is needed it will be sent to the substation and to the grid. A large solar facility is located near Hartfield about two miles from the storage facility. Another solar farm is located behind Middlesex Elementary School at Locust Hill, about a mile away.…
