Bay Medical & Wellness Family Practice (BMWFP) has opened on Route 17 near Hardee’s next to Harris Motors in Saluda and will offer complete primary care and wellness services for the entire family, newborn to the elderly.

Hartfield resident Shannon Stone operates the practice. She is autonomously licensed by the Board of Nursing and Board of Medicine as a family nurse practitioner and is also a certified family nurse practitioner. She has a Masters of Science degree in Nursing.

“My diverse professional training has included primary care, pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, orthopedics, surgical care, psychiatric care, cardiac telemetry, IV nutrition therapy, medical weight loss and hormone replacement therapy,” she said.

She also has certifications in basic life support, advanced life support, pediatric advanced life support and crisis prevention/intervention.

Stone, along with her family, moved to Middlesex County two years ago from Chesterfield County to get closer to the Chesapeake Bay and for a slower pace of life. “Outside of my first love of God and family, I enjoy fishing, boating, wildlife, gardening and reading.

“I’ve been married to my soulmate (Mark) for 28 years and we have two amazing adult sons with our first grandchild on the way,” she said. The business is a family affair as Mark is the front office manager and son Gavin Stone is the practice administrator.

Stone said starting her own business is something she has wanted to do for some time. “The most important thing I value in a community is the willingness to provide support and help for others and I see my business as a means to meet that goal,” she said.

Services

Among services provided at Bay Medical & Wellness Family Practice are acute care for all illnesses and minor injuries, such as flu, sore throat, urinary tract infections, sprain and laceration.

Preventative services include annual physicals, Department of Transportation (DOT) physicals (coming soon), immunizations, well child exams, sports physicals and school entry physicals.

Stone also has a medical cannabis certification for conditions determined to benefit from its use.

On-site testing includes diagnostic lab draw, rapid strep, mono, influenza, urinalysis, blood glucose, Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV), fecal occult blood and pregnancy tests, urine drug screens and sexually transmitted diseases (STDs).
