Hewick fest to return

Masked but smiling, the four public and private school art teachers in Middlesex County gather in the art room at St. Clare Walker Middle School to receive gifts of $500 each from Arts in the Middle to support their respective art programs. Funding for this gift is from proceeds of the annual Arts in the Middle Fine Arts Festival hosted at Hewick Plantation the week-end following Memorial Day. The group includes, from left, Sarah McCormick, Christchurch School; Brindley Lowe, Middlesex High School; Dixie Doer, Middlesex Elementary School; and Patina Janisko, St. Clare Walker Middle School. Calling all artists! Arts in the Middle Fine Arts Festival returns to Hewick Plantation, Urbanna, on June 5 and 6 for the seventh annual event. Popular for top quality art, the two-day outdoor festival hosts 100 professional fine artists whose specialities range from photography to ceramics, to paintings, to mixed media and more. Artists from across the country are encouraged to apply until Jan. 31, 2021. Applicants must submit five images of their works to be reviewed by a panel of jurors, who will then select the final artists to participate in the fine arts festival.

For the June show, applications are currently open for “Artist Row.” These spaces are for applicants selected to exhibit and sell from their own tents.

Online submissions are available at zapplication.org or by mail or email with materials downloaded from the AIM website (www.artsinthemiddle.org). Applications must be received by Jan. 30…
