Veronica Ruth Ireland

Veronica Ruth Ireland, 75, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, June 10, 2020.

She was born Aug. 10, 1944 in Baltimore, Md., to the late Thomas Paul Ireland and Pastor Earlene Ireland Scott.

She loved her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and was a faithful member of the City of Refuge Church of God in Christ Jesus Apostolic Inc., under the former leadership of Pastor Earlene Scott and later, Dr. Sheila Outlaw, pastor.

She was educated in the New York City School System and graduated from Theodore Roosevelt High School.

She was employed by the Bell Telephone Company of New York (renamed AT&T) for 18 years and after moving to Virginia she worked at Mizpah (now Dockside) Health and Rehabilitation Center, Locust Hill, before retiring.

Veronica (Roni) was a quiet, loving person, a peacemaker. She enjoyed time with her nieces and nephews, sharing in cake baking, music and laughter. As an avid athlete, she excelled in competitions winning medals for swimming, bowling, track and tennis. She also enjoyed ice skating and skiing. When not actively engaging in sports competitions, she loved to watch sports on TV.

She was predeceased by her father, Thomas Paul Ireland Sr.; brothers, Michael Ireland and David Ireland; sisters, Renee Ireland and Michelle Gordon (Robert); cousin, Richard; niece, Michelle Yvonne; stepfather, Beverly F. Scott; stepbrothers, Seymour and Theodore (Veolia); and stepbrother-in-law, Marcellus.

She leaves to celebrate her victorious life, her mother, Pastor Earlene Scott; brothers, Thomas Paul Ireland Jr. (Freddie) and Joseph Marshall Ireland; sisters, Sheila Outlaw and Melody Latimore-Christian (Vernon); stepsisters, Alice (William) and Mary Boyd; stepsister-in-law, Sarah; cousins, Brenda Cook and Madelyn Kidd (Jacob); nieces, Hope, Renee, Dawn, Danielle, Nicole, Veronica and Jessica; nephews, Robert, Herbert Jr., Michael, Christopher, Anthony, Whitney and Carl; and a host of other relatives and friends.

A memorial service was conducted Wednesday, June 17.

Services of comfort, J.K. Redmond Funeral Home, Shacklefords was in charge of arrangements.
