Chargers remain perched firmly atop Tidewater District standings

The Middlesex High School (MHS) soccer program continues to show progress this season. The varsity boys program was 7-0 at press time with convincing wins against Lancaster, King William, Mathews, Richmond County, Northumberland and West Point.
The varsity boys have been led by senior midfield Wyatt Evans, who commands the field both on offense and defense. Senior Laney Hall has been a contributor on offense with 17 goals and 10 assists on the season, while junior Marek Hanscom has also been a force to be reckoned with on the offensive end of the field.
The team also has new players including senior defenders Cam Hammond and Mike Hammond, who have made every contested shot throughout the season; Talon Cheatham, who has commanded respect as the goalkeeper; and Nielson “Noodle” McMinn, Wyatt St. Louis, and Jaquan Griffin, the lone freshmen that have worked into roles throughout the season to help capitalize on the team’s success.
“The players have had a great time this season and are more connected than any team I have witnessed,” said MHS boys junior varsity soccer coach Clark Laster. “I think my favorite moment so far this season has been watching Montrell Oakley score his first goal of his life. I am looking forward to watching the boys from a distance and seeing them continue to improve as the season progresses.”
