MCPS getting second pair of electric-power school buses

Grants from VW, Dominion helping offset $437,500 apiece purchase cost; also aiding construction of two new charging stations

The Middlesex County Board of Supervisors and the county school board agreed this month to allocate $875,000 to purchase two new electric school buses through the Volkswagen Virginia Mitigation Trust program.

Dominion Energy is picking up the cost of building the two new battery charge stations to accommodate the buses at St. Clare Walker Middle School at a cost of $170,720.

Harris said that as the school system’s electric fleet of buses grows school officials are going to have to consider installing charging stations at other locations…
