Middlesex supervisors approve re-dredging Mill Creek boat ramp area

At a Middlesex County Board of Supervisors (MCBS) meeting on Tuesday, June 1, Hartfield District Supervisor John Koontz seemed to be calling “uncle” on the long term future of Mill Creek Landing boat ramp in Wake and its association with the Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources (DWR).

Koontz is willing to go one more round with God, nature and sand to work with county marine contractors to remove sand that has spilled over in front of the boat ramp. He was not, however, overly optimistic that DWR officials have the will to make the Mill Creek Landing boat ramp a priority.

DWR (formerly Department of Game and Inland Fisheries) is charged with the maintenance of the facility and several years ago dredged sand away from the ramp only for it to quickly silt in. DWR officials had told county supervisors they did not want to spend any more state maintenance money on the ramp before an extensive engineering study…
