BREAKING NEWS — A Hartfield-Topping area crash Friday evening claimed the life of Wicomoco Church woman and seriously injured her husband.

Gladys Elise Vito, 73, was a passenger in a pickup truck that was broadsided by a tow truck, and died at the crash scene, according to a news release by Sgt. Michelle Anaya of the Virginia State Police.

The crash happened shortly after 7 p.m. on General Puller Highway (Route 33) west of Bob’s Hole Road (Route 625). The pickup, a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado, was pulling a camper and was being driven by Douglas Anthony Vito, 73, who was attempting to exit a private driveway. According to the news release, the Vitos’ pickup was struck by an oncoming tow truck, a 2006 Ford F650 driven by Clarence Daniel Jones of Hartfield.

Douglas Vito was transported to Riverside Regional Medical Center in Newport News. Jones suffered non-life threatening injuries and was transported to Walter Reed Hospital in Gloucester. His male passenger was uninjured.
