Festival features two parades

The annual Urbanna Oyster Festival Fireman’s Parade is at 7 p.m. Friday. The Oyster Festival Parade, sponsored by Whitten Brothers Family of Auto Dealerships of Richmond, will have about 80 units, and begins at 2 p.m. Saturday.

Fireman’s Parade
The Fireman’s Parade will wind its way through town, while the Oyster Festival Parade will bypass the main part of Virginia Street. Both parades will assemble on the east side of town.

The Fireman’s Parade route will be as follows: from the staging area, east on Virginia Street, left on Grace Street, right on Bonner Street, left on Rappahannock Avenue, right on Marston Avenue, right on Cross Street, right on Virginia Street, and return to the staging area. The judges stand will be at the Urbanna Firehouse.

The Fireman’s Parade will feature 60 fire and rescue units, beauty queens and dignitaries. The Firemen’s Dance behind the firehouse runs from 8 p.m.-midnight with Sweet Justice playing top 40 hits. The dance is sponsored by Premium Distributing Company of Virginia and Miller Brewing Company.

Saturday’s Parade
Saturday’s Oyster Festival Parade will head east on Virginia Street, left on Grace Street, right on Bonner Street, left on Rappahannock Avenue, right on Marston Avenue, right on Cross Street, right on Prince George Street, left on Virginia Street, and return to the staging area. The judges stand will be at the Urbanna Firehouse.

The Oyster Festival Parade will feature more than 80 entries. A special parade guest will be the U.S. Army Marching Dixie Jazz Band.

The Oyster Festival Parade is sponsored by Whitten Brothers Family of Auto Dealerships of Richmond.
