Youth wrestlers begin season

The Middlesex Youth Wrestling Club (MYWC) held its first home meet of the 2012 Peninsula Youth Wrestling League season on January 20 at Middlesex High School.
MYWC has 21 members and 13 of those wrestlers competed against wrestlers from Mathews, Gloucester and Williamsburg. There were over 120 matches on three mats on the MHS gym floor.
The following MYWC members competed in 35 matches and registered 11 wins. Those competing for Middlesex were David Seay, Marty Bristow, Shawn Haskiell, Travis Espiritu, Trystin Thomas, George Shaw, Isaiah Burse, Cameron Cutler, Wyatt Pederson, Nat Crown, Dylan Price, Rowan Anderson and Caleb Bagley.
MYWC officials thanked referees Devante Robertson, Tyler Seay, Blake Damron and Dylan Kellar.
MYWC officials said they appreciated the support of our many volunteer table workers, parents, wrestlers and coaches for making the night a huge success.
MYWC also thanked the Middlesex County Public Schools and the county school board for the use of the MHS gym, and the Middlesex YMCA for the use of tables, chairs and uniforms.
The MYWC invites friends, families and students to support its 2012 schedule:
- Feb. 3 at New Kent MS, 6:30 p.m.
- Feb. 12 at Mathews HS, noon
- Feb. 17 at Middlesex HS, 6:30 p.m.
- Feb. 24 at Lafayette HS, 6:30 p.m.
- March 2 at Tabb HS, 6:30 p.m.
- March 9 at Gloucester HS, 6:30 p.m.
If other youth ages 5-14 are interested in the MYWC program, please contact Lanette Beebe at 725-8865 or come by practices held at MHS on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6-7:30 p.m.
