Games started at 8:30 a.m. and the championship game was held at 4:30 p.m. Each team played four games. There were two teams from the Northern Neck YMCA, Mathews YMCA and the West Point YMCA, and Middlesex had four teams in the tournament.
The games were very competitive with all the counties playing hard. The coaches and the kids were extremely focused and did well in all their games. Sportsmanship was at the forefront of the tournament for everyone involved.
Chester Williams and KJ Bassett’s team, a Middlesex team, proved too tough for the other counties and came out victorious at the end of the day. This victory brought the 9-11 Tournament Championship Trophy back to the Middlesex Y!
We are very proud of all our soccer teams. The dedication and skill these young kids show are second to none and this showed in the tournament.
The tournament would not have been possible without the volunteers. Clayton Hogge and Zeb Burrell each refereed a minimum of 10 games each, and Chuck Johnson, KJ Bassett and Chester Williams pitched in on a few games as well. Mark Favazza, the Northern Neck branch executive, also helped referee three games, including the championship game.
The coaches of the Middlesex YMCA soccer program is what makes the season roll. Their knowledge, skill and patience with our youth is the reason why Middlesex has the best soccer program around. Many thanks to you all!
