Williams, Gbinije are All-Prep

Christchurch School’s Caron Williams and Mike Gbinije were among 10 players named to the 2008-09 All-Virginia Prep League team.

Williams, a 6’0” senior guard, averaged 20.2 points, 4.9 rebounds, 2.9 steals and 2.5 assists this season for the Prep League champion Seahorses. A deadly outside shooter, Williams made 46% of his 3-point attempts, 57.8% of his field goal attempts, and 79.5% of his free throw attempts. It was the second straight year Williams was named All-Prep.

Gbinije, a 6’6” sophomore guard/forward, averaged 21.4 points, 5 rebounds, 2.7 steals, 2.9 assists and 1.8 blocks per game. A good outside shooter who can also take it to the basket, Gbinije made 59.4% of his field goal attempts. He was named MVP of this year’s Prep League Tournament.

Others to make All-Prep were Brett Goodloe and Mike Terrell of St. Anne’s Belfield, Jake McGee of Collegiate, D.J. Covington of Norfolk Academy, Landrus Lewis of Woodberry Forest, Isiah Davis of Fork Union, Tom Hart of St. Christopher’s, and Austin Chillemi of Trinity Episcopal.

Brian Kent of St. Anne’s Belfield was named Coach of the Year, and St. Christopher’s earned the Sportsmanship Award.
