West Point edges Lady Chargers 2-1

by Tom Chillemi

The Middlesex High varsity softball team left 5 base runners stranded in its 2-1 loss to West Point in a Tidewater District game at MHS in Saluda on April 11.

Lady Charger pitcher Kaitlyn Weber gave up just 2 hits and 3 walks in the loss.

Weber also led the Lady Charger offense with 2 hits, including a double over the center fielder’s head in the second inning. Weber scored on a bunt by Abigail “CM” Foster.

Avis Keeling got the only other Lady Charger hit, which came in the top of the third inning.

Tambria Wake made several fine defensive plays at first base.

West Point’s offense was aided by a walk and an error.

“It was an improved effort by the Lady Chargers, but it fell a little short,” said MHS coach Wade Traynham.

Middlesex traveled to Windsor on April 16; will host King William on Thursday, April 18, at 5 p.m.; and will visit King and Queen on Tuesday, April 23, at 5 p.m.
