Varsity Chargers beat Indians, fall to Red Devils

The Middlesex High varsity boys basketball team split a pair of non-district home games last week, defeating Northumberland, 62-52, on January 16 and losing 54-48 to Lancaster on January 18.
Jacob Self, with 19 points, and Marquez Holmes, with 18 points, provided more than half of the Chargers’ offense in the win over Northumberland.
Self hit 6 of 11 from the field, including a pair of three-point shots, and made 5 of 6 free throws. He hauled in 7 rebounds and got a pair of steals.
Holmes made 4 of 16 field goals, but was 10 for 14 at the free-throw line. He collected 10 rebounds and 3 steals.
Also for Middlesex, Kaleb Wake added 8 points and took 5 rebounds. Andre Campbell had 7 points and snatched 3 defensive rebounds.
Brett Carter was good for 5 points and 3 steals. D’ Angelo King and Shakeim Paige each had 2 points and 3 steals. Dre Key hit a free throw.
Overall the Chargers made 11 of 18 (61%) free throws, and made 25% of their shots from the field.
Brett Carter was good for 11 points, including a three-pointer, got 4 rebounds and had 5 steals.
Marquez Holmes added 10 points and got 6 rebounds.
Kaleb Wake had 2 points and 11 rebounds.
Andre Campbell made a free throw.
The Chargers (3-1, 6-6) are scheduled to visit Charles City on Friday, January 24, and King and Queen on Tuesday, January 28. The Chargers’ next home game is Friday, January 31, against Mathews.
The JV plays at 6 p.m and are followed by the varsity at 7:30 p.m.
