Urbanna Cocktail Class boat racers awarded more honors

The Cocktail Class Wooden Boat Racing Association has modified the results for the National Championship races held on August 17 in Rock Hall, Md.
Following the races, several drivers disqualified themselves after being informed that the use of modified propellers had not been formally approved by the executive committee and board of directors and were therefore in violation of the 2013 Racing and Safety Handbook.
As a result, the Urbanna Creek Cocktail Class Fleet now has a second National Champion in Tom Bishop, who piloted Double Cross in the 6-horse power (HP) heavyweight race.
Additionally, Kenleighe Longest moved up to a third place finish in the women’s 6-HP race driving Virginia Gentleman, and Anton Webre moved up to a third place finish in the 6-HP heavyweight race in Pickled Tink.
These three awards add to the three already awarded to Shannon Haley, first place women’s 6-HP, Pickled Tink; Chris Riddick, second place men’s 6 HP, The Urbanna Oyster Shooter; and Morgan Friday, second place men’s 8-HP, Skittles.
Overall, Urbanna racers accounted for 2 wins, 2 second and 2 third place finishes at the national championship races.
