Surry edges MHS girls
The Middlesex High Lady Chargers basketball season ended February 20 with a 34-33 loss to Surry in the quarterfinals of the Region A Tournament at MHS.
The Lady Chargers took control of game early but Surry refused to quit and fought their way back in the second half.
“We did not play a practically sharp game but we did play hard,” said MHS coach Neil Wake. “The game came down to who wanted the game the most, and it proved to be Surry.”
Nila Robinson led Middlesex with 11 points. With 4 points each were Tambria Wake, Grace Rutkowski, Givonnie Ree, and Monica Ward. Brittin Payne added 3 points, Avis Keeling had 2 points, and Zinnie Reed made a free throw.
Coach Wake commented on the season. “We appreciate all the support this year and hope we can continue to make our community proud,” he said.
Seniors Nila Robinson and Shannon Bristow will graduate and “will be missed tremendously,” Wake added. “We thank them for wearing the Charger blue because it was truly our pleasure to have them on this team. We hope they rise to greater heights as they continue their journey.”
Wake also gave a “special thanks” to all the coaches for their time and support. “Thanks again from the 2012-2013 version of the Lady Chargers,” he said.
