Speedway action resumes Saturday night
A severe storm that produced high winds and a torrential rainfall forced officials at Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway to cancel the racing on Saturday, August 10. It is the speedway’s fourth rainout of the season.
The speedway will return to racing this Saturday, August 17, with Collision One/Xtra 99.1 Night at the Races and week 10 of Virginia Army National Guard Dirt Series action.
The evening’s events will include four divisions of exciting high octane, side-by-side dirt track racing. Featured will be the Victory Lap Late Model/Fastrak Pro Late Models, Truckin Thunder Sportsman, Budweiser Modified and Collision One Limited Stock Car divisions in action. All divisions will compete in a “twin race” format.
Spectator gates will open at 5 p.m. On-track activities will begin at 6:30 p.m. with hot laps.
The admission price for adults is $12; seniors (60-plus), $10; military (active/retired with proper ID), $8; students ages 13-17, $6; children ages 7 to 12, $4; and children age 6 and under, admitted free. VMS offers a family pass for $25 (two adults and two children 12 and under). Pit passes will be $20.
To enhance the fans racing experience, the speedway has installed a short wave FM transmitter and all of the evening’s action can be heard at 95.5 FM, and spectators are invited to bring portable radio headsets and enjoy hearing all the action.
Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway, an ASA member track affiliate, is a 1/2-mile dirt oval on Route 17 at Jamaica, eight miles north of Saluda.
