Six Chargers earn All-District honors

The Middlesex High School varsity football team had three players to receive first team All-Tidewater District honors on both offense and defense.

Chargers Kaleb Wake, Brett Carter and Robert Drewry received those honors. Wake was All-District at offensive tackle and defensive line; Carter at wide receiver, defensive back and kick returner; and Drewry at running back and defensive back.

Three other Chargers made first team All-District—Hughes Nelson at center; Steve Skelton at offensive guard; and Devante Robertson at linebacker.

Middlesex Chargers who made the Tidewater District All-Academic team were Nelson, Wake, James Williams and Robert Lemon.

Others to make the first team All-Tidewater District on offense were Ryan Mills, West Point; Tyler Gilbertson, King William; Barton Stone, King William; Austin Simons, King William; Malcolm Jackson, King William; L.A. Allen, West Point; Dre Smith, King William; Mike Anerton, West Point; Spencer Keaton, King William; and Jacob Jones, King William.

Other defensive first team recipients were Corey Smith, West Point; Malcolm Jackson, King William; Neil Washington, West Point; A.J. Jones, West Point; Kyle Harley, King William; L.A. Allen, West Point; Camajae Peatross, King William; M. Callahan, Charles City; and Dre Smith, King William.

Former Middlesex High School football standout L.C. Briggs was named Tidewater District Coach of Year Division 1. Briggs is the head coach at West Point High School and a 1987 graduate of MHS. He played nose guard and fullback for the Chargers on the 1985 and 1986 teams. Under Briggs’ leadership, West Point went 8-3 during the 2013 season.
