Signup under way for Deltaville 5K on July 7

The eighth running of the Deltaville 5K & Kids Fun Run takes place on Saturday, July 7, at event headquarters located across the street from the Deltaville Community Center, 17147 General Puller Highway, Deltaville, VA 23043.

Online registration is open through Thursday, July 5, and walkup registration is open at the event site from 4-7 p.m. on Friday, July 6, and 6:30-7:45 a.m. on Saturday, July 7.

There will be crab races before the events, snow cones during the events, and a pancake breakfast after the races.

The YMCA will host a kids’ corral for any parents needing child care while they race. The Kids Fun Run begins at 8 a.m.

The Deltaville 5K, which is a U.S. Track & Field Certified Course and a 2018 sanctioned event, begins at 8:30 a.m. There will be four flights to stagger the starts for racers of all levels, with the fourth flight offering great fun for walkers, many of whom show up in costume to add to the fun.

The event is a great way to celebrate Independence Day, and red, white and-blue ribboned medals will be awarded to all participants. Competition awards in gold, silver, and bronze are awarded to the top male and female winners in each age group.

The event was started as a fundraiser for recovering from the 2011 tornado that ripped through Deltaville. Each year, all proceeds are devoted to continue giving back to the community, and this year’s funds have been committed to maintaining the Ricky Taylor Memorial Swimming Pool of the Deltaville Community Association—where every child in Middlesex County learns to swim—and to renovating the Deltaville Ballpark to make it wheelchair accessible.
