The St. Clare Walker Middle School girls and boys basketball teams competed in the annual Chesapeake Academy Basketball Tournament on Saturday, December 7.

The Lady Seahawks finished second in the tournament by defeating Chesapeake Academy in the opening game but losing to Millwood School in the championship game.

“With only a week of practice under our feet, I was very proud of how well we came together and worked hard on the court. With the leadership of eighth grader, Kaitlin Eubank, I know our team will be great this season,” said girls coach Rebecca Panis.

On the boys side, no team in the tournament was up to the challenge that came with playing the Seahawks. The boys took down Millwood School in their first game and were victorious against Chesapeake Academy in the championship game.

“I was extremely pleased with the defensive intensity and how well we shared the ball. Most importantly though, I was beyond proud of how well they carried themselves and represented SCW,” said boys coach Mike Lewis.

“All of the coaches for the girls and boys St. Clare Walker Middle School teams expect a lot from the kids on and off the court,” said the coaches. “To be a student athlete in Middlesex County is an earned privilege and is not taken lightly. To grow as an athlete on these teams is only one part of how they grow as great citizens.”
