SCW defeats Northumberland

After numerous delays, the St. Clare Walker (SCW) soccer team kicked off their season against Aylett Country Day School on September 25. SCW got off to a quick start when Carter Beam got off an open shot on goal and hit the right upright. That near goal was the story of the day. Middlesex hit the crossbar on four different occasions during the match and had numerous crosses go unfinished.

“I was very happy with how the kids passed the ball during the game,” said SCW head coach Clark Laster. “Our goal this season is for the players to learn how to work the ball upfield with passing and possession. If we can successfully learn how to play the ball in space and utilize the other players on the pitch, it will help the Middlesex soccer program at both this level and the varsity level.”

On September 25 the SCW Seahawks played the Northumberland Indians. In their second game, the Seahawks were far more successful capitalizing on their opportunities. The team was led to the 9-0 win by goal scorers Peyton Lambert, Cameron Lambert, Nielsen “Noodle” McMinn, Carter Beam and Simon Larson.

The most impressive part of the game was not the scoring but the passing and communication seen from the players during the game. At one point, the team had over 20 passes in a row without the other team touching the ball.

The next home game for SCW soccer will be on Thursday, October 4, against Aylett. “Please come out and watch the SCW Seahawks continue to improve and learn the fundamentals of soccer,” said Coach Laster.

SCW will host Northumberland on October 17 and visit Lancaster on October 18.
