On May 10, Rappahannock Community College’s baseball team defeated Danville Community College 4-3 to win the Virginia Community College System (VCCS) Conference tournament championship for the eighth time. Coach Jack Moore brought the Gulls through the season with a conference record of 13-1 and an overall mark of 19-7.
Coach Moore said that the team got off to a rough start, losing two close games, but came from behind in the third game to turn the season around. From that point forward, he said, the players began to work together and improve. He presented to them the twin concepts of never playing on emotion and learning to focus, and over the season saw them absorb these ideas and mature into much better ballplayers.
