Middlesex High School basketball senior guard Raquan Marshall scored his 1,000th career point in a Tidewater District game against King William last week—becoming only the sixth MHS male player to reach that mark.

The King William game was away so Charger fans celebrated the event at half-time against the King and Queen Royal Tigers on Friday, December 15. Marshall and his family received a standing ovation from Charger fans.

MHS defeated King and Queen 60-54, and lost to Tidewater District foe Carver Academy and to the Essex Trojans. Coach Aaron Dodge said, “We had our first and only home game in the month of December today against the Royal Tigers and we were able to get back on track in what was a great event.

“In honor of the season the cheerleaders wore their Santa hats and the basketball players wore festive socks,” he said. “It was a joyous night with a halftime recognition for Raquan who hit the 1,000th career-point mark.”

The Chargers played Mathews away on December 19 and lost 71-60.

After the Christmas break the MHS varsity boys and girls basketball teams will play Northumberland on Friday, December 29, at the Capital One Arena in Washington D.C. The girls game is at 1 p.m. and the boys game is at 3 p.m. Following these games the Houston Rockets play the Washington Wizards at 7 p.m. MHS has a fan bus going to the games.
