Middlesex YMCA to have 8K team in training

The Middlesex Family YMCA is offering a team in training program for the November 14 Richmond 8K road race. The program will begin Saturday, September 19, at the YMCA and continue each Saturday for the following eight weeks until race day.

All fitness levels, walkers, joggers, and runners are welcome to participate.

The program cost is $25 for members and $50 for non-members. An additional registration fee of $25 is also due by September 30 to Sports Backers, the race organizer. Included in these costs will be an “MDX in training” performance shirt, a keepsake water bottle, and informational sessions from a shoe specialist, nutritionalist and personal trainer.

Non-members will have free access to YMCA amenities throughout the course of the program. All participants will be given a workout schedule to follow to help them reach their personal goals. The first few weeks of the program will start at the Y. As the training progresses, the group will meet throughout the county.

“We had a great deal of success with the Ukrop’s Monument Avenue 10K team in training this spring,” said Buzz Lambert, branch executive. “The ladies who participated met their goals, had a great time making new friends, and stayed very active. My goal is to have over 25 participants take on this 8K challenge. No matter what one’s fitness level or road racing experience, the camaraderie, support, and positive energy will make this a rewarding and most memorable experience. Bring out the whole family!”

For questions about registration or the training program, contact Lambert at 776-8846. Registration forms will be available starting Monday, August 17. Further race information can be viewed at
